Terms of use

Outdoor Power Equipment Guide is an independent equipment reference operated by AIXIS LLC, a Vermont limited liability company. Use the actual equipment instructions and applicable requirements for a real machine. Reference text and calculations require verification for the particular model, condition and task.

Equipment and calculator information

Brand names identify products; they do not imply manufacturer affiliation or endorsement. Manuals, model revisions, replacement parts and operating conditions can differ. A reference measurement or calculated result is not a fitment approval, safety certification, repair inspection or electrical design.

Use qualified service for work requiring inspection, special testing or professional judgment. Stop using damaged equipment or an unsafe instruction while the matter is unresolved.

Third-party material

Linked documents belong to their publishers. A source can change or become unavailable. Follow the current applicable manufacturer or regulator instruction and the exact campaign remedy for a recalled product.

Reuse and contact

Short quotations of this publication with attribution and a link are permitted. Ask through contact about reproducing a whole page or distributing the material commercially. Permission for this publication’s text does not grant rights to a third party’s manual or standard.

The site is provided as available, without warranties of uninterrupted service, accuracy for every application, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. To the extent applicable law permits, AIXIS LLC and its members, officers and agents disclaim liability for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss associated with use of the site.

Some jurisdictions limit exclusions; applicable law controls those limits. Vermont law governs these terms without its conflict-of-law principles. Revised terms apply to continued use after publication.

Terms of use

Outdoor Power Equipment Guide is an independent reference publication about outdoor power equipment, operated by AIXIS LLC, a Vermont limited liability company. Using the site means accepting these terms. We are not a manufacturer, a dealer, a parts retailer, a repair shop or a certifying body, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by any brand named here.

Brand and model names appear only to identify equipment discussed in the reference. Nothing on the site is professional advice, nothing here guarantees that a part identified by these methods will fit your machine, and where this site and your manual, a plate on the equipment, or an applicable regulation disagree, they govern and we do not.

What this site is

Outdoor Power Equipment Guide is an independent reference publication about outdoor power equipment, operated by AIXIS LLC, a Vermont limited liability company. Using the site means accepting these terms.

What this site is not

We are not a manufacturer, a dealer, a parts retailer, a repair shop, an equipment inspector or a certifying body, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any brand named anywhere on this site. Brand and model names appear only to identify equipment discussed in the reference, which is a nominative use and does not imply any relationship.

Nothing here is professional advice. It is not electrical advice, not a repair procedure for your machine, not a safety certification, and not a substitute for the operator's manual for the equipment in front of you or for the judgement of a qualified electrician, technician or arborist.

No guarantee of outcome, fitment or compliance

Specifications, measurements, standards and regulations change, and machines differ from one another and from their own documentation after years of ownership and repair. We do not guarantee that any figure, measurement method, calculator result or procedure on this site is correct for your machine, your situation or the rules that apply where you are.

In particular: we do not guarantee that a part identified using the methods described here will fit your equipment; we do not guarantee that any calculator result is adequate for a real installation, load or purchase; and we do not guarantee compliance with any code, regulation, permit requirement, warranty condition or insurance requirement. Where this site and your manual, a plate on the machine, or an applicable regulation disagree, they govern and we do not.

Safety, and the limits of written material

This equipment can cause serious injury and death. Engines produce carbon monoxide, blades and chains and augers cut, hydraulic and pressurized fluid can penetrate skin, fuel ignites, and machines roll over. The safety material here explains mechanisms to support equipment decisions; it does not make any activity safe, and it cannot account for the condition of your machine, your experience, or the circumstances you are working in.

You are responsible for deciding whether to attempt anything described here, for the protective equipment you use, and for stopping when a task is beyond what you should be doing yourself.

Calculators

The calculators apply stated formulas to numbers you supply. Their assumptions are printed on the same page as the result, and they are planning tools rather than engineering designs, certifications or quotations. A result is only as good as the inputs and the assumptions behind it, and where a calculation touches a building's wiring, a load, or a pressurized system, a qualified professional's judgement governs.

Third-party links

We link to regulations, standards bodies and government agencies. Those sites are not under our control, we are not responsible for their content or availability, and a link is not an endorsement. Where a document has been revised since the date shown on our page, the current document governs.

Our content

The writing, diagrams, tables and calculator implementations on this site are ours. Quoting a passage with attribution and a link needs no permission.

Reproducing a whole page, or using this material in something you distribute or sell, does: ask through the contact form. The regulations and standards this site describes belong to the bodies that publish them; we can grant permission for our writing and not for theirs.

As-is, and limitation of liability

The site is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free or current.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, AIXIS LLC and its members, officers and agents are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of property, profits, data or use, arising out of or connected with your use of this site or reliance on anything published here, including damage to equipment, injury, or the cost of a part that did not fit. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, and in those places this clause applies to the greatest extent they permit.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Vermont, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site changes. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last revised, and continuing to use the site after a revision means accepting it.
