Equipment sources: manuals, recalls, listings and owner evidence

Use the inline source beside a model-specific fact, then check the document’s model, serial range and revision. This directory helps choose the right reference type for that particular task. A manual specification, regulator notice, dealer offer and owner account answer different questions.

Manuals and parts identification

The Honda GCV example distinguishes dry capacity from refill quantity. The Deere comparison separates a cartridge exchange from a full oil change. Read the operation as well as the number.

Regulators and public safety

A recall needs the actual product and remedy status. Emissions certification hours are not an engine-life or warranty forecast. Use recall checking and the emission-label guide for those separate interpretations.

Prices and owner reports

The repair decision includes a dated dealer asking-price example. The drive diagnosis links one owner’s belt-repair account. Asking prices do not establish completed-sale value; one repair account does not establish a failure rate.

Checkable arithmetic

The calculators show formulas and worked inputs. A selected start multiplier, friction estimate or comparison price remains an assumption until replaced with evidence for the actual job.

Send a disputed figure with the exact page and document through corrections. Keep source scope attached when reusing a specification or calculation.

About this site

Source ledger

This is the complete list of documents behind the figures on this site. Each entry names its publisher, the document identifier where one exists, the date it was read and how often it is looked at again: annually for a federal regulation, monthly for a recall database, and on revision for a standard that only changes when its committee changes it.

Every figure names one of the documents below. Each entry gives the retrieval date and how often the document is looked at again.

Manuals and parts catalogs

Engine maker manuals and parts lists, dealer parts catalogs and retailer listings are the sources for part numbers, capacities and service intervals. They are listed above by type, and the engine page that uses each one names it. The reasoning is on how we source and verify.

Standards documents are the property of the bodies that publish them and are available from those bodies. Where a standard is cited here, we are naming the document that governs a requirement and describing what it covers; we are not reproducing it.
