Westinghouse iGen4500 generator oil and plug service
For the cited gasoline iGen4500, use600 ml of 10 W-30 oil and the 97109/F7RTC plug specification. Its first oil change is 25 hours or the first month. Keep the full model suffix: the WGen lines have separate service documents, and DF recall applicability is not decided by the 4500name alone.
Find the engine row before filling the crankcase
| Model | Oil capacity | Plug type | Initial oil change |
|---|---|---|---|
| iGen4500 | 600 ml / 0.63 US qt | 97109 – F7RTC | 25 hours / first month |
The matching manuals call for the next oil service at 50 hours or six months, whichever comes first. Dust, heat and heavy use can shorten service intervals. Check the actual oil level before each use; neither a low-oil shutdown nor an included oil bottle replaces that check.
Order parts from the correct fuel version
The iGen4500 manual identifies foam air filter 5691, spark arrestor 6790, fuel filter 516401, drain washer 94007 and battery 511019. Keep those numbers with that gasoline manual. They do not establish compatibility with every unit carrying “4500” on its case.
DF in a recall notice is part of the identity
CPSC’s 2020 fuel-leak recall covers iGen4500DF and WGen5300DFv dual-fuel generators manufactured October–December 2019. A gasoline iGen4500 is not automatically included by its similar name; conversely, dropping the DF suffix can miss an affected unit.
Before a used purchase, photograph the complete label and compare the notice’s manufacture information and serial applicability. Obtain the remedy record for an affected unit. Check current recall notices as well; this historical example is not a clearance certificate.
Westinghouse iGen4500 generator: oil capacity, spark plug, part numbers and schedule
The Westinghouse iGen4500 takes 0.63 US quart (0.60 liter) of 10W-30 oil and a 97109 F7RTC spark plug gapped 0.024 to 0.032 inch. Westinghouse lists its own part numbers for the foam air filter (5691), spark arrestor (6790), fuel filter (516401), oil drain plug washer (94007) and battery (511019). The break-in is the first five hours at no more than 1,850 watts.
The oil is changed after the first 25 hours or month and then every 50 hours or 6 months, and the plug and air filter are replaced every 300 hours or year.
Run it outdoors, well away from doors, windows and vents, and never in the rain. Figures below are from Westinghouse’s user manual for the iGen4500 gasoline model, listed in the sources. Dual-fuel versions have their own manual and are not covered here.
The one manual here that prints the part numbers
The iGen4500 is Westinghouse’s 3,700 running-watt, 4,500 peak-watt inverter generator, with a 224 cubic centimeter engine, recoil, electric and remote start, and a 3.4 gallon tank. Where most manuals stop at a spark plug type, this one carries a maintenance parts table with Westinghouse part numbers, reproduced below, so you can order the parts that the schedule calls for.
| Item | Specification |
|---|---|
| Output | 3,700 running watts, 4,500 peak watts, 120 V, 60 Hz, total harmonic distortion 3% or less |
| Engine displacement | 224 cc |
| Oil capacity and type | 0.63 US qt (0.60 L), 10W-30 |
| Spark plug | 97109 - F7RTC |
| Spark plug gap | 0.024 to 0.032 in (0.60 to 0.80 mm) |
| Valve clearance, intake | 0.0031 to 0.0047 in (0.08 to 0.12 mm) |
| Valve clearance, exhaust | 0.0051 to 0.0067 in (0.13 to 0.17 mm) |
| Fuel | 87 to 93 octane; do not use E15 or E85 |
| Fuel tank | 3.4 gal (12.8 L) |
| Description | Part number |

| Fuel filter | 516401 |
The schedule, and the break-in that comes first
For the first five hours Westinghouse says not to exceed 50% of the rated running watts, which is 1,850 watts, and to vary the load occasionally so the stator windings heat and cool. After that the schedule runs by hours or calendar, whichever comes first.
| When | What |
|---|---|
| Before each use | Check the engine oil. |
| After the first 25 hours or the first month | Change the engine oil. |
| After 50 hours or every 6 months | Change the engine oil (monthly under heavy load or high temperature) and clean the air filter (more often in dust). |
| After 100 hours or every 6 months | Inspect and clean the spark arrestor and the spark plug; replace the fuel filter and inspect and adjust the valve clearance, both of which Westinghouse recommends leaving to an authorized dealer. |
| After 300 hours or every year | Replace the spark plug and the air filter. |

Westinghouse iGen4500 generator: questions
How much oil does a Westinghouse iGen4500 take?
0.63 US quart (0.60 liter) of 10W-30. Westinghouse says to check the oil before each use or every 8 hours of operation, and add it a little at a time near the end of the fill, since the dipstick shows the level.
What spark plug does the Westinghouse iGen4500 use?
Part number 97109, a Torch F7RTC, gapped 0.024 to 0.032 inch (0.60 to 0.80 mm). Inspect and clean it after 100 hours or every 6 months, and replace it after 300 hours or every year.
What is the part number for the iGen4500 air filter?
The manual lists the foam air filter as part number 5691. It also lists the spark arrestor as 6790, the fuel filter as 516401, the oil drain plug crush washer as 94007 and the battery as 511019.
When should I change the oil in an iGen4500?
After the first 25 hours or the first month, then after 50 hours or every 6 months. Westinghouse says to change it monthly when running under heavy load or in high temperatures.
What is the break-in procedure for the iGen4500?
For the first five hours, do not exceed 50% of the rated running watts, which is 1,850 watts. Vary the load occasionally so the stator windings heat and cool. Change the oil after the first 25 hours or month.
What fuel does the iGen4500 use?
Gasoline of 87 to 93 octane. Do not use E15 or E85, since Westinghouse says damage from stale fuel or unapproved ethanol blends is not covered. The tank holds 3.4 gallons (12.8 liters).
How often should I clean the iGen4500 air filter?
After every 50 hours or 6 months, and more often in dusty conditions. Use household detergent soap, not gasoline or a flammable solvent. Replace the filter after 300 hours or every year, or sooner if it cannot be cleaned.
What is the valve clearance on the iGen4500?
Intake 0.0031 to 0.0047 inch (0.08 to 0.12 mm) and exhaust 0.0051 to 0.0067 inch (0.13 to 0.17 mm). Westinghouse recommends its authorized service dealer inspect and adjust it, at 100 hours or every 6 months.
How many watts is the iGen4500?
3,700 running watts and 4,500 peak watts at 120 volts and 60 hertz, with total harmonic distortion of 3% or less. Output falls about 3.5% for each 1,000 feet above sea level.
How big is the iGen4500 engine?
224 cubic centimeters. The generator can be started by recoil, electric start or remote, which is why the manual lists a battery part number. The fuel tank holds 3.4 gallons.
Can I run the iGen4500 in hot or cold weather?
Continuously up to 104°F (40°C), and for short periods from 5°F to 122°F. If stored outside that range, bring it back within it before starting. Always run it outdoors, well away from doors, windows and vents.
What does the iGen4500 need before storage?
Westinghouse says to use a fuel stabilizer mixed in an approved container and run the generator for five minutes so it treats the whole fuel system, or run the engine until the tank is empty. Allow it to cool for two minutes before refuelling.
